India has the largest number of young people aged 10-19 years in the world – 253 million. However, 56 per cent of girls and 30 per cent of boys in the age group of 15-19 years in India suffer from anaemia.

India has the largest number of young people aged 10-19 years in the world – 253 million. However, 56 per cent of girls and 30 per cent of boys in the age group of 15-19 years in India suffer from anaemia.


This means that 1 out of 2 young girls and 1 out of 3 young boys are anaemic.On 23th December, 2015, a National Media awareness campaign for the Weekly Iron and Folic Acid Supplementation was launched in Delhi with Shri J.P. Nadda, Hon’ble minister of Health and Family Welfare, UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, Ms. Priyanka Chopra and Mr. Louis-Georges Arsenault, UNICEF Representative for India , in the presence of senior officials from the ministry.
