Hyderabad: The Samaikyandhra agitation continued to rage on Tuesday in the Andhra and Rayalaseema regions with holding meetings, ‘rasta rokos’ demonstrations and obstruction of several Union Ministers from attending officials programmes. Government employees organised human chains at several places and raised slogans in support of the united State.
Thousands gathered at ‘Mande Gundela Ghosha’ in Guntur organized by NGOs. Workers and farmers and vent their anger against the State’s division. Several intellectuals and leaders of NGOs explained the ill- effects of the dividing the state. They called upon Ministers, both in the State and the Centre, to give up their posts and join the movement. They alleged that half truths, untruths and lies were being spread against the State’s integration and called upon the intelligentsia to join the agitation to keep AP united at any cost. At Eluru, in West Godavari district, Telugu Desam MLA Chintamaneni Prabhakar and Samaikyandhra JAC activists surrounded the house of Union Minister Kavuri Sambasiva Rao.
The police tried in vain to stop them. Some agitators managed to enter the premises and ransacked furniture. Supporters of the Minister tried to block them, leading to tension. Rao had returned from Dwaraka Tirumala, even though JAC and TDP workers tried to stop him. They raised slogans opposing the State’s division and against the minister. The agitators had tried to prevent the Minister from unveiling Pinnamaneni Koteswara Rao’s statue at Bhairavapatnam in Krishna district. The police dispersed the crowd. Rao later unveiled the statue.
Protagonists of Samaikyandhra prevented the Union Minister Killi Kriparani at Visakhapatnam airport and demanded her resignation. She told them that her resignation would not serve any purpose; she won’t be able to raise her voice against separation in Parliament. But the crowd continued the slogans. The police escorted her into the airport.
T Subbarami Reddy, MP, was stopped from entering KG Hospital, Visakhapatnam, to distribute fruits to patients to mark his birthday. The KGH staff refused to allow him until he resigned. Reddy refused and forcefully entered wards with police help and offered fruits to patients.
Thousands of women from all over Ongole district converged for ‘mahila garjana’. City roads were packed. Samai kyandhra slogans rent the air. At the venue cultural programme by women attracted the people. Songs on Samaikyandhra by artists enthused the crowd. Games, songs and other programmes were organised since morning to engage the gathering. The Animal Husbandry department staff organized a novel protest with a rally of bullock-carts at Porumamilla. They raised slogans demanding the resignation of all elected representatives, asking them to join the agitation cutting across party lines.
