SI hurt as bank robbery bid is foiled

Sangareddy: Some miscreants, who attempted to rob a bank at Kaveli village in Kohir Mandal of Medak district on Thursday night shot and seriously injured a Sub-Inspector of police who chased them. According to police, the villagers of Kaveli heard an alarm from the Syndicate Bank branch on the outskirts of the village and informed the police. The alarm sounded when some people gained entry into the bank by removing the windowpanes and tried to enter the strong room by breaking open the locks. The Kohir Mandal Police Station Sub-Inspector Nomula Venkatesh rushed to the bank with his force. When the miscreants heard the sound of the approaching police jeep, they fled into the thick bushes in the adjoining fields. As the Sub-Inspector followed their trail, the miscreants fired five rounds at the police chasing them. The SI received a bullet wound in the right side of his chest. In the melee, the miscreants fled. The Zaheerabad Circle Inspector Sridhar Reddy, who rushed to the spot on receiving the information, sent the injured SI to Zaheerabad hospital. After first aid, he was rushed to KIMS Hospital in Hyderabad for further treatment. The doctors at KIMS surgically removed the bullet from his body. The condition of SI was stated to be out of danger. The District Superintend of Police Vijaya Kumar, Dy. SP Venkatesh and ASP Bhoopal who visited the place of the incident reviewed the situation and decided to form five police parties to apprehend the culprits.
