Tulasi leaves can help cure fluorosis

Nalgonda: The authorities in Nalgonda found an ingenious and cheapest method to detoxify fluoride water in Nalgonda district and make it safe drinking water. Nalgonda District Collector Mukteswar Rao and District Fluoride Control Officer Komaplli Narasimhulu demonstrated on Friday that by using Tulasi leaves, the fluoride water could be purified. Narasimhulu said there are seven types of Tulasi plants and two types Krishna Tulasi and Lakshmi Tulasi have the purifying capacity. He said they had taken 100 mg of water with 7.4 ppm fluoride content and put six Tulasi leaves in it. After eight hours, the water was examined and it was found that the fluoride content was reduced to 1.1 ppm from 7.4 ppm. The Collector said that earlier four universities in Rajasthan had conducted such experiments and found the efficacy of Tulasi in reducing the fluoride content.
