New Delhi: After Nirbhaya case, justice has finally been delivered in the murder of the 14-year-old Aarushi Talwar, who, alongwith domestic help Hemraj, was found murdered in her flat on May 15-16, 2008, in Noida. The killing of Aarushi had caught the imagination of the Delhiites, who dreaded the possibility of the parents killing their own daughter, in the name of honour-killing, as the parents allegedly found both the victims in an objectionable situation. The Talwar couple – Rajesh and Nupur – has been found guilty by the CBI Court in Ghaziabad for the double-murder and destruction of evidence, among other offences.Rajesh Talwar was also accused of filing a wrong FIR with Noida police. Both were taken to jail in Ghaziabad, where they would be sentenced on Tuesday after hearing the arguments on sentencing.

The Talwars have moved the Allahabad High Court to get justice. The court will take up the appeal on Wednesday, in a case that saw various twists and turns during the investigation. The charge, which was initially given to the UP police, was hushed-up and carried out in a flimsy way that destroyed all the evidence. Followed by the outrage, the CBI took over the case and gradually it started becoming clear that the murder could not have taken place without the connivance and participation of the parents.

The case, which was virtually fought in the media, made the parents guilty even before the judgment and when the CBI filed a closure report in December 2010 stating that there was not enough evidence to support the suspicion, the court disagreed.
In February, 2011, Ghaziabad Special Court converted the closure report into a chargesheet and made Rajesh Talwar an accused in the double-murder, while Aarushi’s mother Nupur Talwar was charged with criminal conspiracy and destruction of evidence. The dentist parents have been accused of destroying the evidence of the murder.
The CBI pressed the theory that during the night of murders, there was no evidence of any forced entry and of the four people in the house – Aarushi, Hemraj, Rajesh and Nupur – only two were alive and hence the circumstantial evidence pointed towards the parents. All the evidence, like no outsider entry, last scene theory, dressing up of crime scene, destruction of evidence, tampering with Aarushi’s body and cover-up of Hemraj’s body with a cooler panel, all pointed towards the Talwars. Additional Sessions Judge Shyam Lal arrived in the high-security court room and summoned both the accused, before reading out the operative portion. The Talwars issued a statement, saying, “We are deeply hurt and anguished over the crime we have not committed. We refuse to be defeated and will continue to fight for justice.”
