New Delhi: Aiming to come to power at the Centre, the AAP has decided to launch a nationwide membership drive from January 10-26. AAP will also contest on the maximum number of Lok Sabha seats.

The AAP is banking on the nationwide euphoria, following the AAP coming to power in the Delhi Assembly elections, for going national. The first list of AAP candidates for Lok Sabha will be out by January 15. The decisions were taken at the second and concluding day of the AAP National Executive that concluded in the Capital on Sunday.

Yogendra Yadav said the party has laid down the candidates selection system. The district committees will make the recommendations and the State Screening Committee will forward it to the Political Affairs Committee (PAC), whose decision will be final in matters of selection of candidates. A three-member National Campaign Coordination Committee has been set up with Yogendra Yadav, Sanjay Singh and Pankaj. The AAP Election Manifesto will be out by March.

The AAP National Executive named Gopal Rai as membership drive incharge. The membership drive will have for its theme, “Main Bhi Aam Admi Hun” (I, too, am a common man). To get more members enrolled, the party has decided to scrap the Rs 10 membership for now.

AAP leader Yogendra Yadav said that in Haryana the AAP will contest all the 10 Lok Sabha seats and the 90 Haryana Assembly seats. The AAP is confident of capturing power in Haryana. Yogendra Yadav said there is speculation of advancing the Haryana Assembly elections, which are due only in October. Whenever the Assembly elections, the AAP is ready to contest the polls, he said. AAP supremo and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal showed his lifeline on his palm and said it is strong, in response to a query on security. Kejriwal said, “The VIP culture should be abolished from the country. The red beacon was a part of British Culture. Angrej Chaley gaye, lal batti rah gaye (Britishers left, red beacon remained). We will try to abolish VIP culture wherever we get a chance.” Asked what advice he give to the other State Chief Ministers, Kejriwal said, “It is an individual’s ideology, who am I to give advice? I am a small man, Other Chief Ministers are big people. But we will try to abolish it wherever we get a chance.”
