New Delhi: Former BJP President M Venkaiah Naidu on Monday asserted that there was no dilution in party stand on Telangana statehood, but at the sametime, it was firm on ensuring justice to the people of Seemandhra region.
The BJP will insist on bringing necessary amendments in Parliament to ensure justice to the people of Seemandhra region, he said. Addressing a Seemandhra BJP protest at Jantar-Mantar in the capital, Venkaiah Naidu said BJP President Rajnath Singh had stated this in his presidential address to the BJP national council meeting on Saturday. BJP Parliamentary Party chairman L K Advani had also confirmed this.
“Telangana is unstoppable” he said and advised the Centre to expedite the T process. He also turned the heat on the Congress. “Prime Minister Manmohan Singh proposes and Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy disposes. Congress President Sonia Gandhi proposes and APCC President Botcha Satyanarayana disposes. Who is lying?” he asked.
The BJP leader also made it clear that Hyderabad cannot be made the common capital for both the States for too long. Naidu said the BJP stood for Telangana with 10 districts. It virtually ruled out either transferring Bhadrachalam to Seemandhra or making Hyderabad the permanent common capital for the two States.
In contrast, however, the Seemandhra BJP demonstration apparently raised the pitch. The Seemandhra BJP leaders demanded transferring Bhadrachalam, now part of Khammam in Telangana, to the Seemandhra region. Demands were voiced to keep Hyderabad as the common capital for both the States. They also opposed any changes to the design of the Polavaram project. The Telangana BJP is emphatic that the design of the Polavaram Project should be changed.
The Seemandhra BJP leaders felt that the Telangana Bill did not take into consideration even a single concern of the region. They said the Congress-led UPA government was causing serious injustice to Seemandhra region with the Telangana Bill. The main charge against the Congress was that it was treating the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh as an internal party issue and it did not bothered to consult or take on board the concerns of the Seemandhra region.
The demands include a steel plant in Kadapa district in the Rayalaseema under the aegis of the Steel Authority of India in place of the abandoned Brahmani Steels.
This would help create employment in the backward Rayalaseema region. Other demands are upgradation of the existing airports in Vijayawada, Tirupati and Visakhapatnam, besides establishment of IIT, IIM and AIIMS in the region.
