Modi slams UPA's 'Mar Jawan, Mar Kissan' motto

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate in a speech on Wednesday in Hiranagar, Jammu, scathingly attacked UPA and Congress for their “weak approach to the Indian security forces and the farmer.”

Modi said vehemently in his characteristic style that the slogan of the current UPA government is ‘Mar Jawan, Mar Kissan (Die Soldier, Die Farmer).’ He lashed out, “Lal Bahadur Shashtri used to say ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’. Today's UPA and Congress seem to have adapted that slogan to 'Mar Jawan, Mar Kisan.”

The Gujarat CM said that Congress is misleading people in the garb of secularism and takes refuge in the tag to hide all its failures. He said, “We say that the youth needs employment while they say secularism will be in danger. I talk of farmers problems, and, to that, they again say that secularism comes first.” He continued, “In my kind of politics, you have to work 18 hours (a day) trying to alleviate the suffering of the poor and downtrodden and also implement new ideas for development every day. The Congress can't walk this path.”

Prior to the rally today, Modi reached the Vaishno Devi shrine in the Trikuta hills in Katra and sought the blessings of the Goddess.
