Four staff members of Fabindia store in Goa arrested in hidden camera case were granted bail by local court on Saturday after the store manager moved the court. The whole controversy erupted when Union Education Minister Smriti Irani spotted a hidden camera inside the trial room of a Fabindia outlet at Candolim village on Friday. She immediately raised an alarm after which Goa Police registered a case against the staff for voyeurism.

Irani, on a visit to Goa, came across the camera when she was in the FabIndia showroom to buy clothes and immediately protested, alerting her husband, businessman Zubin Irani, said Superintendent of Police (North) Umesh Gaonkar.
She then called BJP's Calangute MLA Micheal Lobo, who lodged an First Information Report (FIR). Calangute police, which searched the showroom after a complaint by Lobo, found a CCTV camera installed in the ventilation unit of the room. Gaonkar said police have recorded statement of Irani.
“A case has been filed under section 354 C (voyeurism) and 509 (intrusion into privacy) of Indian Penal Code against employees who were monitoring the cameras. We are analysing the entire data,” the SP said.
Meanwhile, Fabindia Managing director William Bissel said that there are security cameras in all the stores but they are not in trial rooms. "They cannot see what is happening inside the trial room," he said.
Bissel said his staff was not able to detect any of what Lobo had said of images inside the trial room and they have to be verified. "The cameras are routinely placed in places where shoplifting can occur," he said.
Later, Fabindia issued a clarification on social networking site Facebook, saying they are investigation the matter internally and will cooperate with the police.
“Fabindia is deeply concerned and shocked at this allegation. We are in the process of investigating this internally and will be cooperating fully with the police. Senior officials of the company are on their way to Goa and will be present during the investigation,” read the message.
