New Delhi: Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday accused the Central Government of not giving the money promised to the states ruled by his party.

"The chief ministers said the Modi government is promising money but not giving it. They (the Centre) are giving money from one hand and taking it away from another," Gandhi told the media after a meeting of Congress chief ministers here.

Rahul Gandhi ridiculed the Modi government's flagship 'Make in India' campaign, saying it "shows a powerful lion but you can't hear him roar".

"Nothing has happened," he said. "Even (the government's) employment promises are not being fulfilled."

The Congress vice president's jab came on the heels of his mother Sonia Gandhi and former prime minister Manmohan Singh's comments taking on the government during the Congress Chief Ministers' conclave.

A combative Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Tuesday attacked the Narendra Modi government, accusing it of engaging in a "dangerous duplicitous game" by allowing Modi's colleagues to create an atmosphere of "fear and foreboding" by fomenting "communal polarisation".

She also charged the government with making "systematic attempts" to dismantle edifice of the welfare state and asked partymen to "strongly oppose" its moves on the land bill and food security law.

"One one hand, the Prime Minister wants to project himself as the great champion of good governance and Constitutional values while on the other he allows many of his colleagues to make vile statements and foment communal polarisation.
