In a statement, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said that, the State Government has been taking up a slew of measures to find solution to the twin problems of flood and erosion in the State.
He accused to the Modi government and said that, in this regard the present Central Government has not taken any initiatives so far.
“The State Government has been taking up a host of measures to control the problems of flood and erosion in the State out of its own resources notwithstanding the fact that the Central Government is yet to release the funds,” Gogoi said.
“It is unfortunate and disquieting that the present Central Government did not release the funds despite the State Government releasing completely its share of funds,” Gogoi said.
Gogoi further said that, the Central Government is yet to release a whopping Rs 25,707.97 lakh earmarked by the 11th Finance Commission against 100 schemes despite the release of its share of funds by the State Government. Moreover, the Central Government is yet to release Rs 101660.39 lakh earmarked by the 12th Finance Commission against 41 schemes.
“The non-release of staggering amount by the Central Government has created spanner in tackling flood and erosion problems. The present Central Government has adopted a lackadaisical attitude towards solving the burning problems confronting the State which include the perennial flood and erosion problems,” the Assam CM said.
Gogoi said though the Central Government decided to rechristen the Brahmaputra Board nothing concrete has emerged so far.
“The country can make faster progress and prosperity through the Smart Village concept ensuring urban amenities in villages. The Central Government should earmark five lakh crore rupees for this purpose,” Gogoi said.
