Reject Jungle Raj 2, Modi tells voters. Launching a counter-offensive against the scathing remarks by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on him at an election rally on Sunday, RJD president Lalu Prasad accused him of lowering the dignity the PM’s post.
Lalu, Nitish hit back
Gaya: Launching a counter-offensive against the scathing remarks by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on him at an election rally on Sunday, RJD president Lalu Prasad accused him of lowering the dignity the PM’s post.
Lalu Prasad and Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar have denounced Narendra Modi's 'jugle raj' remarks. “Narendra Modi has given a new low to the standards of a Prime Minister. People are looking at him as a joker now,” Lalu, the political maverick, said in a tweet.
Modi said only the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance could ensure Bihar's development and cautioned the people against the return of 'jungle raj 2' if the JD-U-RJD alliance won in the upcoming state Assembly polls.
He said: “In his (Lalu’s) earlier jungle raj (as chief minister) in Bihar, a new experience of jail has been added which threatens to make ‘jungle raj II’ all the more damaging.” Prime Minister Narendra Modi backed Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje and MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan from a public forum in Gaya.
Both ministers have been under fire from the opposition for their involvement in what is called the "Lalitgate" and the Vyapam scam. But the BJP has backed both, turning down the Opposition's demand for their resignation. While taking on the Nitish Kumar government over development in Bihar, Modi came up with what was seen a powerful endorsement for the two Chief Ministers.
Both Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, he said, were included among the "Bimaru" states - an acronym comprising the first letters of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttar Pradesh in Hindi, meaning sick -- where the development index was extremely low. "Rajasthan was called a bimaru (sick) state, but no longer. Under Vasundhara Raje, Rajasthan has scaled new heights," he said.
The situation he said, was similar in Madhya Pradesh. But "Madhya Pradesh elected a BJP government... in just 10 or 12 years under Shivraj Chouhan, Madhya Pradesh is no longer a sick state." Nitish took to Twitter to remind Modi of former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee's "Rajdharm" remark.
Reacting to the remark of the PM, describing JD(U) as "Janata Daman aur Utpeedan", the Bihar CM tweeted "Would like to remind Modi of Vajpayee's 2002 Rajdharm advice," in an apparent reference to Vajpayee's remark which he made during a press conference in 2002, the year Gujarat witnessed widescale inter-communal violence.
In a series of tweets, CM Nitish Kumar hit back at PM Modi for calling Bihar a BIMARU (sick) state and said Modi's statement shows his prejudice for people of Bihar. "PM Modi has once again insulted people of people. Calling Bihar BIMARU shows his bias. PM has made fun of himself by calling Bihar BIMARU state.
I thought he would apologise for his DNA remark but he didn't," Nitish said. "People are awaiting to get Rs 15-20 lakh from the black money you promised to bring back from abroad. Could we hear something on this?" . "You promised special status for Bihar. 14 months and people are still awaiting," the chief minister sought to know from the Prime Minister.
