With the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) seeking registration as a state party in Uttar Pradesh and also the Election Commission of India, the party sources inform that this preparation was for the political debut in UP.

Once the process of registration as a state party is over, the preparations will begin for the assembly polls, said AIMIM’s state convener Shauqat Ali who added that the screening of candidates for panchayat elections has begun and are looking at panchayat elections as a dry run ahead of the state polls.

Mr Shauqat Ali said that the party will contest from around 40 districts except Bundelkhand and Varanasi. With no organisational structure at present, he said that anyone claims to be an office-bearer of the party’s state unit should be able to back his claims with documentary evidence.

Maulana Sabi-ur-Rehman had sparked off a controversy recently after he claimed to be the general secretary of AIMIM's state unit and alleged that he was not being invited to party meetings.
