Calling the claims of Gujarat Government over Quran stating consumption of beef being bad for health as baseless, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi said that there was no such verse in Quran and added that they don't want to learn Islam and Quran from them.

Billboards surfaced in Ahmedabad quoting a verse claiming to be from Quran that stated beef is the cause of several diseases. The billboards put up by the Gauseva and Gauchar Vikas Board of the Gujarat had pictures of Chief Minister Anandiben Patel asking people to respect the cow.

Mr Owaisi questioned the Gujarat Government on their sudden importance to the Muslims and if they had to give importance to Muslims, then they should provide civic amenities such as implementing the Metro line in Ahmedabad run in Muslim areas, gas line extensions or stop the garbage being dumped in Zuhapura.

Mr Owaisi added that when they don't know anything about Quran, it is wrong to talk about such things. Talking about the eight-day ban on meat in Thane and four-day ban in Mumbai during the Jain community's upcoming fasting period, Mr Owaisi said that it was not a Muslim issue but an economic issue. He said that it is unfair for the poor workers earn their livelihood by selling meat and pointed out there are many people who are non-vegetarians apart from Muslims.
