Indian cyber crime cell to set up Rs 400 cr hub to kill child pornography

To keep a check in all the cyber crimes, a Rs 400-crore cyber crime control hub is being set up and the IC4 will have linkages with the two databases - CCTNS and NATGRID, that have all information related to various kinds of crime and criminals.
According to the sources, the IC4 priorities include keeping track of the international gangs who try to hack government’s official communication network and provide a platform for online cybercrime complaints and assist the law enforcement agencies in criminal investigation. In the wake of an expert committee submitting a report of roadmap tackling cyber crimes to the home ministry, pointing India lacking centralised online reporting mechanism, skilled cyber professionals and adequate infrastructure, the initiative has taken up.
Drastic measures needs to be taken to reduce crimes against women and children particularly online abuse is recommended by the committee. Union home minister Rajnath Singh directed immediate execution of the recommendations. The committee in its report said that the content in websites needs to be monitored and blocked. Also, children’s activities in cyber space need to be monitored by the parents and also educate children regarding good cyber behavior.
During the last two years, almost 40 percent annual increase has been witnessed in cyber crimes. The Centre has also been questioned by the Supreme Court for not much progress in checking child pornography. Internet Service Providers have been directed to block over 800 sites that have child porn content.
