Hyderabad: Former Chairperson of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) Dr Shantha Sinha, who is one of the nation’s leading anti-child labour campaigners and who is the recipient of prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award, opposed the amendments to the Juvenile Justice.

Talking exclusively to The Hans India on Tuesday, Dr Sinha said lowering the age of juvenile will be denial of child rights. She said India is a signatory to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child which mandates that all children under the age of 18 years be treated equal.

She said India was very progressive at the Convention. “Lowering age under any circumstances is regressive step and I condemn it,” she added. She said it would deny second opportunity for children.
