Srinagar NIT unrest: Two-member HRD team to visit campus today
A two-member team of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) will visit the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Srinagar on Wednesday, where unrest flared again yesterday after a group of students clashed with the police, which resorted to lathicharge in which some were injured.

Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Nirmal Singh assured safety and assistance to the students of the NIT following the recent unrest.
"The students wanted to go out but they were stopped by the police and baton charged them. Few students have been injured. Parents are very much tense regarding this. I have taken cognizance. There is peace now. A team from the HRD is coming to NIT. I think, their issues shall be addressed properly. I have talked to the Chief Minister also. She is also monitoring the situation," Singh told ANI.
Singh further assured that it was the responsibility of the Jammu and Kashmir Government to take care of the security of the students.
"If any student faces any problem, they can take my number, which is 09419149494. My landline number is 0191 2555781. I can assure that they won't face any problem," he added.
Unrest was witnessed again at the NIT campus, with outstation students expressing a sense of insecurity and attempting to leave the campus, which led to a confrontation with the police.
The protesters were outstation students who said they wanted to go back home in light of the violent clashes that broke out with local students on Friday after India lost the World Twenty20 semifinals.
With the situation being tense, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was deployed last night at the campus.
The situation escalated to the point that Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh wrote to newly sworn-in Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who assured him that action would be taken.
NIT authorities shut down the institute for five days after the clashes broke out when a group of Kashmiri students allegedly celebrated West Indies' victory over India.
