​Guwahati: At least 17 labourers were killed in a massive landslide triggered by incessant rains which hit a labour camp in Arunachal Pradesh's Tawang on Friday morning.

The incident took place at Famala area, four km away from Tawang at around 3 AM.

The labourers hailed from Assam, who engaged in a hotel construction at the area.

A local administration official said that, following incessant rains in past few days in Arunachal Pradesh and landslide incidents happened in many places.

"The labour camp hit by a massive landslide and the labourers buried by mud. Nine bodies have recovered so far and eight others are still missing, " the official said.

The labourers are hailed from Barpeta, Dhekiajuli, Balipara area of Assam.
