New Delhi: Cheer up Telugus in Telangana and AP. Wet days are going to give relief from the massive heat wave the two states are undergoing right now. Skymet predicts wet spell from May 3 to 7 and one could expect relief and respite from high day temperatures and water scarcity.

A report released on Sunday stated that people across Telangana, Rayalaseema, Karnataka and Vidarbha and Marathwada regions of Maharashtra will also have a huge relief. This pocket is also reeling under severe drought conditions. With summer ushering in early this season, heat-wave to severe heat-wave conditions also made appearance over several parts of the country in quick succession.

Though first half of April was relatively better as compared to the second half that saw extremely high and record-breaking temperatures across East, Central and interior peninsular India. Bangalore which is known for pleasant weather has been recording way too above normal day temperature for most of the month.

Abnormally high day temperatures can be attributed to the absence of pre-Monsoon rains that commence in April. In fact, this April has turned out to be one of the driest Aprils on record. However, May is likely to begin on a wet note giving massive relief from the scorching hot weather, particularly over Odisha and Telangana where mercury has even peaked as high as 48°C. Skymet Weather predicts pre-Monsoon rain and thundershowers to pick up pace from May 2 onwards, leading to abatement of heat-wave from most parts of the country.

The much-needed activity is likely to continue for a week but on and off rains will go on till first half of May. Thereafter, it will remain confined to northern and southern parts of the country. By May 26 and May 27, good rain and thundershowers will start appearing over Kerala, indicating the onset of Southwest Monsoon. Weatherman indicates a promising May ahead, giving huge relief from blazing heat.

But South Gujarat, Coastal Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu will escape the pre-Monsoon showers and will get only isolated rain activity. Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, North and Northeast Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh will start witnessing good pre-Monsoon rain and thundershowers from May 2 or 3. These on and off rains will continue for a week. Thereafter rains will become occasional but will continue with reduced intensity.

By May 3, these pre-Monsoon rains will cover parts of Central and East India. This includes Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, East Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal. The much awaited rain activity will lead to abatement of heat-wave conditions over most parts of the region. Though the activity will reach the Western region a bit late by May 6, rain belt will cover parts of Gujarat, Madhya Maharashtra and remaining parts of Rajasthan.
