Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum): Hailing the Bharatiya Janata Party's making inroads into the Kerala political scene by winning one seat and increasing its vote percentage as "historic", party's Kerala unit president K. Rajasekharan on Thursday said the BJP got entry in the Kerala legislative assembly despite the fact that both United Democratic Front (UDF) and Left Democratic Front (LDF) were united to resist the emergence of the BJP in the state.

"It is a proud historical moment that for the first time in the history of Kerala, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), particularly the BJP has got entry in the Kerala legislative assembly. At the same time it is very evident that both the UDF and the LDF have tried their level best. They have conserved their full energy to prevent the BJP to enter in the assembly," Rajasekharan told ANI.

"Overall, in Kerala, we have increased our vote share from six percent to 18-20 percent. So, a party having 18-20 percent vote share, itself clearly proved their influence in the Kerala political scenario. Their presence itself is very remarkable and noticeable," he said.

"At the same time, the people of Kerala voted and selected those people who must be there in the Kerala legislative assembly to highlight or expose the problems of Kerala's general public in the Kerala legislative assembly," he added.

Taking a dig at the LDF and the UDF for miserably failed to address the public grievances and their 'life problems', Rajasekharan said, "In the election campaign itself, we have pointed out that Kerala has reverted all their activities in every field. There is no progress in agriculture, education and in any field. So, this was the talking point in the election,' he said.

"But at the same time, the UDF and the LDF came out attacking the BJP and NDA partners. They become united to resist the emergence of the BJP here (on the Kerala's Political scene) in Kerala. But the people think that it is not a correct attitude, so they voted a considerable share that the BJP gained in the Kerala assembly elections," he said.

"In one constituency, the BJP has won, while in seven-eight constituencies the party has maintained second position and in many other constituencies it got 30,000-35,000 odd votes" he said.

In Kerala, the LDF returned to power by winning 85 of the total 140 seats, trouncing the ruling the UDF, which could bag only 46 seats. The BJP, however, opened its account in the state by winning one seat, while others won eight seats.
