Gudivada, a small village I Bhogapuram Mandal got name and fame for sending a large number of youth into armed forces and para military forces like Indian Navy, IAF, Army, BSF and CRPF. At present around 300 youth are working in various positions and departments in the armed forces. This has won the village the nickname of ‘Army village’ and ‘Army Gudivada. Even the parents of the heros and wives also feel proud to have such a great son or husband.

S Adinarayana, who is serving in the Army said “I have been in this service for the past 12 years. This is not a job, we can say it as a responsibility towards our society, nation. This is a challenging job and I am very happy to be the part of Indian Army.” said. Unlike other youth, the students of this village won’t try to get jobs in banks, railways or any other government jobs and after completion of their school education or Inter.

They face the exams, physical tests conducted for recruiting into armed forces. Even they spend more time in school ground than in class rooms and they are more interested in enhancing their physical standards, which can help them to get selected for the armed services. After completion of their school education the students of this village practice running, skipping, playing kabbadi, volley ball to improve their stamina and standards.

From this village 40 men are in the BSF, 250 are in the Army and 20 are in the Indian Air Force The youth, who are ambitious towards these services are taking advice and suggestions from the seniors and following them to realise their dreams. Vemula Apparao, an ex-service man said “I along with four more youth was selected to these services during 1970’s and I had participated in Indo-Pak war and I was wounded too. But I did not bother for the pain and fought for our nation. Later, some more youth have followed our advice and got selected for armed services,” he said.

Chinnammalu of this village said “I have three sons Gopala Rao, Surya Rao and Appala Raju and all of them are working with armed forces and they visit our village and spend two months with me during their holidays. I am proud to have such great sons as they are guarding our boarders and protecting us,” she said.

Sarpanch of the village D Chandrasekhar said every year; around five youth from our village are selected for various services. We are proud of them and the service they are rendering for the nation,” He said. K Ramesh, a graduate who is trying for these jobs says that he is practicing running and other physical exercises to improve his stamina and taking suggestions from the seniors, who are already selected for those jobs.”
