New Delhi: The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha lashed out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his remarks against ‘gau rakshaks’. The Hindutva outfits, many of whose cadre work as cow vigilantes, accused Modi of betraying the people by allegedly flip-flopping over the agenda of cow protection.

Mincing no words, the Hindutva outfits have warned the Prime Minister of meeting the same fate of Atal Bihari Vajpayee if he chooses to act against the saffron forces. The VHP, one of the organizations who supplied thousands of volunteers for the NaMo campaign, has accused Modi of betraying every Hindutva worker in the nation through his remark.

They have questioned his approach towards the issue of cow protection, stating that he cannot take action against thousands of butchers who are slaughtering animals, but have the audacity to call selfless cow vigilantes as “goondas”.

Hindu Mahasabha president Chandraprakash Kaushik claimed that Modi is not worthy of being the Prime Minister, and in 2019, he would be “sent back just like Vajpayee”.

Prime Minister Modi has made a string of attacks against the gau rakshaks in the past couple of days. He first spoke out at against the self-styled cow vigilantes at the MyGovt Townhall event, where he urged the state governments to prepare a dossier against the cow vigilantes and against the goons among them.

Subsequently, the next day while addressing a public meeting in Telangana, he condemned the acts of gau rakshaks, asking people to expose those anti-social elements.

The most stinging attack came later in the day when he was addressing BJP workers in Hyderabad. Modi said, “What right do these gau rakshaks have to treat the Dalits and poor in this manner? If they want they can shoot me, but please don’t target my Dalit brothers”.
