New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday said like every Indian, he was also deeply pained by recent incidents in Jammu & Kashmir and assured the Opposition parties of his government's commitment to stable and peaceful resolution of the Kashmir issue as per basic principles of the Constitution.

"We are committed to the welfare of the people of the state. To find a solution, we will follow the path shown by former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee," said the Prime Minister while delivering the concluding remarks at the all-party meeting to review and seek suggestions on the Kashmir situation at the Parliament House here.

Modi reiterated New Delhi's stand that Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), as part of Jammu and Kashmir, belongs to India. The meeting had been called in a bid to discuss ways of cooling the tensions in Kashmir, which had erupted after the killing of terrorist Burhan Wani by security forces. "There cannot be any compromise on national security.

But we have to win the confidence of the people in Jammu and Kashmir," Modi said at the meeting.
He thanked the parties from across the political spectrum for having spoken in one voice on the issue.

The all-party meet came at the end of the Budget Session of Parliament. Both the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha have unanimously passed resolutions calling on the people of Kashmir to help restore peace in the Kashmir Valley.
