New Delhi: The French naval contractor DCNS, which is in the news following the data exposure of Indian submarine Scorpene by newspaper ‘The Australian’, has filed a criminal complaint against unknown persons on the grounds of breach of trust before the Paris Public Prosecutor even as the French National authority for Defense Security begins its investigation into the leak on the sensitive data about Indian submarine.
Emmannuel Gaudez, Head, Media Relations, DCNS, responded to the queries of The Hans India on the leak on Friday afternoon. The company, however, remains silent on the designation of the employee who stole the data and leaked it to the world.
It also does not confirm how long he was with the company at this juncture. There was, of course, not much given away "as the investigation is on". The company suspects corporate revenge could be at play but he is not sure of it.
The following is the response of the company to the queries:
Q: Following news reports of data leak by ‘The Australian’ of your Indian project on Scorpene, I seek your reaction to the same, Mr Gaudez Emmanuel. ‘The Australian’ claimed that the leak was from the DCNS and it happened in 2011 itself. Were you aware of it or not?
A: We can't confirm or infirm this information. The investigation will determine how and when the leaks happened
Q: A suggestion was made in another report that the employee was sacked by your organisation. Is it true?
A: We can't confirm this rumour. The investigation will determine the responsibilities for this leakage.
Q: Where was the employee working at that period of time and how long was he with your company?
A: We can't confirm this rumour. The investigation will determine the responsibilities for this leakage.
Q: What was the capacity or designation of the employee?
No Answer.
Q: Do you attribute the leak to corporate revenge?
A: We don't know if the revenge corporate is the point of start of the leaks against the company. The investigation will determine the responsibilities for this leakage.
Q: Is this meant to sabotage your Australian project too and thereby your worldwide reputation or is it just a 'one-off' act?
A: We don't know if the economic warfare is the point of start of the leaks against the company. Competition is getting tougher and tougher and it might be a tool which might beused.
Emmanuel further stated: "Thank you for your request. I'm afraid but we couldn't make any additive comment in relation with our official statement: DCNS has been made aware of articles published in the Australian press related to the leakage of sensitive data about Indian Scorpene.
This serious matter is thoroughly investigated by the proper French national authorities for Defense Security. This investigation will determine the exact nature of the leaked documents, the potential damages to DCNS customers as well as the responsibilities for this leakage.
