​Srinagar: At least three terrorists have been killed in an encounter between the security forces and terrorists in Nowgam sector of Jammu and Kashmir's Handwara.

Four weapons have been recovered from the slain terrorists, while search operation is currently underway.

"Alert soldiers posted along the Line of Control in Naugam sector noticed some suspicious movement and challenged the intruders," an army official said.

The militants opened fire at positions of security forces which was "effectively retaliated", triggering a gunbattle, he said.

"Three militants have been killed and war-like store recovered from the scene of the gunbattle," the official said, adding that the operation was still in progress.

Meanwhile, a police personnel was killed and another was injured in an ongoing encounter between the security forces and terrorists in Allah Pir area of Poonch district, Jammu and Kashmir.

According to reports, the police received information of heavily-armed terrorists hiding in an under construction government building in the outskirts of Poonch. On surrounding the building, the forces came under heavy fire, killing one policemean and injuring another. Reports added that two to three militants are believed be holed up inside the building.

One of the injured is Sub Inspector of Special Operation Group (SoG) Manzoor Hussain and another a civilian Tariq, PTI said.

The encounter reportedly began at 7:50 am in the morning near Army’s 93 Brigade headquarters in the district and is currently under-way.

Shops and business establishments are closed in Jammu and Kashmir in view of the ongoing unrest in the Valley, even as preparations are underway for the Eid-ul-Azha which falls on Tuesday. The protests entered 65th day on Sunday.
