Guwahati, September 11: Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit on Sunday flagged off a half marathon christened Bharat Jago Dour (India Awake and Run) to commemorate the 124th anniversary of Swami Vivekanandas Chicago speech at SAI Complex in Guwahati.

It may be mentioned that Bharat Jago Dour is observed every year as a mark of respect and remembrance of how Swami Vivekananda had aroused the spirit of youth of the country to motivate and chennalise their energy for nation building.

Organised by Kreeda Bharati the half marathon was aptly participated by the students of different city schools.

Speaking on the occasion, Purohit said that the need of the hour is to get the coming generations of our country acquainted with the ideals and philosophy of Swami Vivekananda.

"The moral degradation that we are experiencing today can be addressed by Swamijis teachings. It was Swami Vivekanada who had popularized Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam to the world," the Assam governor said.

Purohit also asked the Kreeda Bharati to take the initiative of popularizing Swamiji and his teachings among the students community.

Terming that the children are the future of the country, Purohit reiterated the need of bringing about transformation in the value system of the students and said that Swamijis teachings will help the students to inculcate good values in them because students with sound values can lead the country to prosperity.

If the rate of development our country is to be expedited, value based education should become a prime focus for our students, the Governor added.

Purohit also asked Kreeda Bharati to take a lead in Swachh Brarat Campaign and make Guwahati a clean and serene city.

He also exhorted on the need of converting Swachh Bharat Campaign into a Mass Movement.
President Kreeda Bharati, Guwahati Chapter Rakhi Sarma, Director SAI Dr. Subhash Basumatary and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
