New Delhi:An Indian soldier who was injured during the September 18 terror attack on an army camp in Jammu and Kashmir's Uri town, died here on Friday morning taking the total toll of martyrs to 19, officials said.

The soldier was identified as 35-year-old Raj Kishore Singh of the Bihar Regiment. He was undergoing treatment at the Army Research and Referral hospital in the capital since the day after the attack.

Singh hailed from Piparpati village of Bihar's Bhojpur district, 75 kms west of Patna. He was the youngest of three brothers. He is survived by his wife Kanchan Devi and two children, 12-year old daughter, Suhani Kumari, and 10-year old son, Hemant Singh.

Singh's niece told IANS that the family received the news around 3.30 a.m.

His elder brother Ashok Singh is also in the army, while the eldest Deni Madhav Singh, a former soldier, retired three years ago.

Hemant Singh, the young son of the martyred soldier, said that if given the opportunity, he too would join the army and serve the nation.

Singh's uncle Ram Niwas Singh told IANS, "The family will move to their ancestral village this evening and his cremation would take place there after the body is brought from Delhi."

He also praised the Indian Army's surgical strike along Line of Control (LoC) late on Wednesday night in which seven terror launch pads were destroyed.

The entire family was in shock at the sudden death of the soldier. Singh's wife Kanchan was not in a state to speak.

After the news of Singh's death spread, many people and political party leaders gathered at his rented accommodation in Ara (Bhojpur).

Most of the soldiers killed in the Uri attack by four members of the Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Toiba, were from the Bihar Regiment.

All four terrorists were killed and Thursday's cross-border surgical strikes were India's response to the attack.
