Mumbai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has successfully isolated Pakistan globally in the aftermath of Uri attack, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said on Wednesday.

"The prime minister had taken a stand for peace (after coming to power). But after the Uri attack, there was a wave of anger. However, after the surgical strikes (in PoK by Army), our country showed that we can hit back if we are attacked. He has successfully isolated Pakistan globally," he said.

Fadnavis was speaking at a function organised by the Mumbai District Cooperative Bank (MDCB) to provide financial assistance of Rs 10 lakh each to families of four jawans from Maharashtra who died in the Uri strike.

"125 crore people of the country are firmly behind the families of the martyred jawans. Soldiers make sacrifices to protect the country's borders and citizens. Progress and development could take place because of them (soldiers)," he said.

Meanwhile, state unit Congress spokesman Sachin Sawant recalled that Fadnavis had raised the issue of corruption in MDCB when his party was in Opposition during the erstwhile UPA rule. MDCB is headed by Pravin Darekar, who had switched his loyalty to BJP from MNS soon after the saffron party formed government in 2014.

"Now, Darekar is purified after his induction in BJP, and has been made MLC. BJP doesn't speak about probing the irregularities (in MDCB) now," Sawant said.
