Srinagar: Security forces killed a militant, while another managed to escape, on Wednesday morning during an encounter in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

The encounter broke out early morning after security forces cordoned off a locality in Bawoora village of Bijbehara in Anantnag. The militants tried to fled and fired at the security forces ensuing a gunfight in which one militant was killed.

The slain militant has been identified as Basit Rasool Dar of Marhama village in Anantnag. Son of a J&K Bank Manger Branch Ghulam Rasool, Dar was a B. Tech student before joining militants three months back.

Sources say another militant escaped on a motorcycle. Two militants are also trapped in another encounter in Hadipora, Sopore, in north Kashmir.
