Retired official launches campaign to boost literacy in MP
A retired police official has launched \'Angootha Saaf\' campaign in Ater constituency of Bhind district in Madhya Pradesh in a bid to boost literacy levels in the area.
Bhopal: A retired police official has launched 'Angootha Saaf' campaign in Ater constituency of Bhind district in Madhya Pradesh in a bid to boost literacy levels in the area. The drive aims at making residents literate so that they do not use thumb impression while signing any documents. "We have named the campaign as 'Angootha Saaf' wherein we will ensure that no citizen in the region relies on thumb impression. The school going kids will be the driving force to accomplish this mission," retired Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ashok Singh Bhadoria told PTI today.
The campaign was launched from Februray 18 in the area. "They (school kids) will be the ones who will teach their parents to write their names and use it while signing any important document," said the retired official. "Definitely it is a small steps as it is not possible to implement everything at one go. We need to realize how much they can learn in the initial phase. So, our first step will enable the citizens to sign their names and free them from thumb impression.
"As per my understanding, this will not only generate curiosity among the villagers about will bring in awareness about literacy as a must for future development," Bhadoria said. He said that when a journey to develop an area starts, it is not only about providing light, water and making buildings. It is equally important to develop the people of the area who can drive the development journey further. "We have planned to take the 3Es approach i.e.
Educating the children of the region, Empowering the youth of the region by connecting them to the digital world and by Enabling the citizens learn to write their names to begin with as part of our endeavour to transform rural areas in real sense," he said. Just developing the area with infrastructure will not work in the long run. It is imperative to empower the local people, especially the youth as they will take the journey of development forward, he added.
