Mumbai: The Nifty hit a new high at 9,122.75 and the Sensex soared 496 points to 29,442.63 on Tuesday. The move is seen as a reaction to BJP’s victory in the important battleground state of UP.
The NSE index rose as much as 2.1% to a record high of 9,122.75 points, surpassing the previous peak of 9,119.20 hit on March 4, 2015.
All sectoral indices led by bank, capital goods and realty were in the positive zone with gains up to 2.2%. Meanwhile, the rupee soared 42 paise to 66.18 against the US dollar.
Besides, fresh inflow of foreign funds and healthy buying which was witnessed in capital goods, banking and consumer durables stocks.
