Vadodara: Two persons were today injured in a leopard attack after the animal strayed into a village in Amreli district of Gujarat, triggering panic among residents. The incident took place this morning in Hemla village when the wild cat attacked two locals grazing their cattle, before it took shelter in the outhouse of a building there, forest officials said.

As soon as the leopard entered the room, panic-stricken locals locked it from outside and alerted the forest officials, which then rushed to the spot and began the rescue operations.

"The leopard remained locked in one corner of the room for about two hours before our team captured it," Range Forest Officer (RFO) H V Rathod told PTI. According to forest officials, the leopard might have entered the village in search of food from nearby forests in Gir-Somnath district.

The injured identified as Kalubhai Wagh and his son Manga Wagh were admitted to a district hospital. The caged leopard was taken to a nearby animal care centre at Ranigra and it would be later released into the forests, officials added.
