Highlights:

  • Deputy Chief Minister, who holds the Education portfolio, says the Centre has not so released half of the funds under Rashtriya Uchhatar Sikshya Abhiyaan programme.
  • He appeals to Union Minister of Human Resource Development to liberally give grants for centenary celebrations of Osmania University.

This is the lone college to be included from the two Telugu States and it is entitled for Infrastructure Grants. RUSA programme and its App were launched here on Monday by the Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar as also the Fund and Reform Tracker system. In all, 17 facilities are included in the programme. Deputy Chief Minister Kadiyam Srihari, who participated in the conference, later told the media that half of the RUSA funds had not been released causing delay in the implementation of the scheme.

The scheme had remained a non-starter, he added. The State government could not complete the works pertaining to facilities and infrastructure at the said institution due to the delay, he said, adding that he urged the Union Minister to look into the issue. Srihari also sought funds for backward areas, districts and universities under the programme. He pleaded for an IIM and Women's University in Telangana State and also sought financial assistance for conducting Osmania University Centenary Celebrations in a big way.

Andhra Pradesh Minister for Education, G Srinivasa Rao, could not attend the conference due to pressing engagements back home. RUSA is the Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) of the Department of Higher Education, MHRD which aims to provide strategic central funding to State Higher Education Departments and Institutions and achieve the broad objectives of access, equity and excellence. The State Higher Education Departments and Institutions undertake certain governance, academic and administrative reforms as a pre-requisite to be entitled for RUSA grants. The implementation of RUSA in its right earnest began after May 2014.
