Srinagar: Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi, who arrived here on Thursday, discussed the security situation in the Kashmir Valley with Governor N.N. Vohra and Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti.

Mehrishi discussed the growing students unrest and the overall security situation in the state with Mehbooba Mufti at her high-security Gupkar Road residence in Srinagar.

He later called on Governor Vohra at Raj Bhawan and held extensive discussions about issues relating to effective maintenance of law and order.

They also discussed matters related to the security situation along the International Border and the Line of Control.

The Home Secretary is also meeting top Army, police, state and central intelligence officials during his two-day stay in the valley.

The visit of the top Union Home Ministry official comes a day after the dastardly murder of an Army officer, Lt. Ummer Fayaz, by militants while he was at home on leave.

The unarmed officer was abducted on May 9 when he was attending the marriage ceremony of his cousin.

The bullet-riddled body of the officer was found in Shopian district.
