Vijayawada: Krishna District Collector B Lakshmi Kantham presented Padma Shri Award to Dr V Koteswaramma Director of Montessori Mahila Kalasala in the city on Saturday.Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said that the Central government had announced the Padmasree award to Dr V Koteswaramma, Director of Montessori Mahila Kalasala, for her dedicated work to education to the girls. The Collector said that to maintain an educational institution and imparting education was a big challenge and responsibility.
He added that her contribution in educating the students and transforming them into good citizens helped her win the national award. He further sated that Koteswaramma grew with an ambition to attain this stage, he added. Speaking on the occasion, Padma Shree awardee Dr V Koteswaramma said that she took it as a challenge to educate the children and further said that she started the institution from nursery and made into a big institution in a phased manner.
She said that she grew step by step building the institution fromp, high school then to junior college and then degree and PG, and now the institution was sending research students, she added. One of the old students of Montessori Mahila Kalasala donated R 5 lakh for setting up women’s health checkup camp and women counselling centre at the college.
The award function was started with inauguration of a new dais by the District Collector B Lakshmi Kantham, Women’s Commission Chairperson Nannapaneni Raja Kumari lighted the lamp. Mayor Koneru Sridhar, director general APHRD D Chakrapani, Andhra Loyola college Telugu department HoD G Sambasiva Rao and other were present.
