New Delhi: Deradicalisation of terrorists including "Psy-Ops" (psychological operations) would become an integral part of internal security in view of the influence of Islamic terrorism on the youth. This was disclosed by the Director of Bureau of Police Research & Development, Nirmal Kumar Azad, ahead of the National Conference of Micro Mission of National Police Mission scheduled to be held here on May 23 and 24.

To achieve the mandate of NPM, eight micro missions are working under the BPR&D and the features are: Human Resource Development, Community Policing, Communication and Technology, Infrastructure, New Processes, Proactive Policing and Visualising Future Challenges, Gender Crimes and Gender Related Issues and Correctional Administration. Deradicalisation of terrorists through regular counselling methods is the main aim. However, the Proactive Policing and Visualising Future Challenges part includes Psychological Operations to identify the terrorists and to trap them.

It may be recalled that this provision which is to be actively persuaded in future should come as a great morale booster for the Telangana Police which has, of late, come under an attack from the Congress leadership. Senior Congress leader and in-charge of Telangana, Digvijay Singh, has been training his guns against the Telangana police for allegedly "trapping Muslim youth" with a tendency and leaning towards terrorism.

Another important feature is the Counter Terrorism - Capacity Building at PS level in Naxal Affected Areas. The police stations of AP and Telangana would undergo a sea change as far as the numbers are concerned once this comes into force.
