New Delhi: The Central government ignored the plea of Telangana to exempt its prestigious projects like Mission Bhagiratha and other irrigation projects from the GST.

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley did not heed to the demand of Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao in this regard at the GST Council meeting here on Sunday.

Finance Minister Eatala Rajender told the media later that the Centre was yet to respond on its demand for the reduction of the slab on granite from 28 per cent to 16.2 per cent. “Our request to reduce the tax burden on small scale industry too fell on deaf years,” he said.

He said the decision to impose tax on a turnover of Rs 75 lakh and more of small scale industries would be a big blow to the industries as the earlier provision was for taxing only a turnover of over and above Rs 1.5 crore.
