New Delhi/Chennai: The troubles in the AIADMK party continue even after the merger on Monday as 19 MLAs loyal to TTV Dhinakaran and VK Sasikala have withdrawn their support to the EPS government and have submitted separate letters to Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao saying that they lost confidence in his government during their meeting with the Governor at Raj Bhavan. AIADMK (Amma) deputy general secretary TTV Dhinakaran has expelled R Vaithiligam from the party.
The Rajya Sabha MP had earlier announced that Sasikala would be removed from the party general secretary post. With the MLAs loyal to Sasikala and Dhinakaran raising the banner of revolt against the government, the Opposition DMK and the lone IUML MLA want Chief Minister K Palaniswami to take a trust vote in the Assembly.
The Dhinakaran camp claimed the support of 25 AIADMK MLAs. Raj Bhavan sources confirmed that the meeting took place on Tuesday morning, but did not divulge details, including the number of members in the delegation and the nature of their interaction with Rao. There are reports that Dhinakaran camp has sent all its MLAs to a resort in Puducherry.
Of the 234-member Assembly, the AIADMK has 134 MLAs excluding the Speaker. Late chief minister Jayalalithaa's RK Nagar constituency is still vacant. The DMK has 89 seats followed by its allies Congress with eight and IUML one seat.
If TTV has the support of more than 17 MLAs, it would be possible for him to bring down the EPS government. This is because even with legislators from the OPS camp, who presently has 11 MLAs, the Palaniswami government will still fall short of the magic number of 117.
Seeking to capitalise on the developments, the DMK shot off a letter to the Governor asking him to convene the Assembly and direct Palaniswami to prove his majority in the House.
