Hyderabad: Bharatiya Janata Party and a section of netizens have criticised AICC Vice-President Rahul Gandhi for his comments on RSS women activists.

Rahul Gandhi, who is on a three-day tour at a public meeting in Vadodara recently, tried to portray the RSS as a male-dominated organisation and questioned as to why the women workers were never spotted wearing shorts like their male counterparts.

Calling the comment as derogatory, former Chief Minister Anandiben Patel demanded that the Congress apologise for Rahul Gandhi’s statements. Harsh criticisms with #Rahul Ki Gandi Soch bombarded social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook, making it to the trending discussions on the Internet after the T20 IPL.

Kapil Kaushik, an IT professional wrote, “RaGa is embarrassment for his party & for all Indian's as he is an MP. His views about Women & Hinduism are disgusting.” While another user Shivam posted a picture of senior RSS women workers and asked how he could demean someone of his mother’s age.

Nupur Sharma, a BJP spokesperson mocked the opposition by tweeting that it degraded women empowerment with its definition as a "Tunchmaal", "Thumkewali", "Dented-Painted" and now "Women in Shorts”.

The discussions took a new twist when users began to take a jibe at the ruling party. Calling it an irony, a netizen said that the party whose UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held an opinion that women were not capable of being left free and independent has no right to dig at another over women power. Let us see where this debate ends!
