Kochi: The Kerala High Court has given its nod for marriage registration of couples living abroad through video conferencing. Hearing a petition filed by Kollam-native Pradeep and wife Beryly, who are currently living in the US, the High Court said the couple can appear before the marriage registrar through videoconferencing.

According to the petition, their marriage was solemnised at the St Casimir’s Church at Kadavoor in Kollam on Janury 23, 2000. Pradeep, who was working in the Indian Space Research Organisation, later went to Ireland on official assignment. He took his family with him. The company, in which Pradeep was working, shifted its base to the US in 2006. He, with this family, relocated to the US.

The couple said in order to apply for permanent resident status in the US, they need to provide their marriage certificate issued by a competent authority. They filed an application before the Kollam Marriage Registrar through relatives.
