Ban loudspeakers from all religious places: Javed Akhtar

Popular film lyricist and poet Javed Akhtar said that there should be no loudspeakers at places of worship. Akhtar said he is opposed to the usage of loudspeakers not just at mosques, but also in every religious place.

In a series of tweets, he fully supported playback singer Sonu Nigam, who proposed sermons on loudspeakers as hooliganism.
"This is to put on record that I totally agree with all those including Sonu Nigam who want that loudspeakers should not be used by the mosques and for that matter by any place of worship in residential areas,” said Akhtar, who was Rajya Sabha MP for one term.

Akhtar said that he had also supported the Kashmiri Pundits many times and spoke about their plight on various for a, including a programme where the then chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and his daughter, Mehbooba Mufti, who is the current chief minister.

Meanwhile, Sonu Nigam thanked Akhtar for his support and said that the stand was well-timed.
