In an open opposition to the BJP, which is part of the ruling NDA alliance in the state, the church asked the voters not to take the money and development offered by the hands that ‘seek to pierce the heart of Jesus Christ. “Gods must be weeping to see Naga politicians run after those who ‘seek to destroy Christianity in India,” NBCC general secretay Rev Keyho said.
The council had courted controversy in the past too when it termed Yoga a Hindu practice and asked the Churches not to practice or promote Yoga.
In neighbouring Meghalaya too, the Church has stepped into to preent the BJP advance.
Church in Nagaland, a predominantly Christian state, has great influence on the society and politics. Church diktats have great salience in Nagaland, which is in election mode now.
