Gas leak in rayon making unit, 1 dead, 11 hospitalised

One person died and 11 others had to be admitted into the hospital due a hazardous gas leakage in a rayon manufacturing unit in Maharashtra’s Kalyan in Thane district. The incident occurred late last night at the unit located in Shahad.

The incident occurred while three different types of gases, necessary for the making of rayon, were being mixed. Suddenly, due to the gas leak, the employees complained of eye irritation, suffocation and nausea.

They were immediately rushed to the hospital. Their condition is stated to be out of danger. However, one Sanjay Sharma, aged 34, died due to suffocation. The police registered a case and are investigating.
