Mumbai: Rumours are flying thick and fast over the health condition of Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar. There were rumours that he was admitted to the Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai on Sunday and that he has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

Parrikar was admitted to the hospital on February 15 due to serious health complications. There were doubts as to whether the chief minister would be able to attend the budget session of Goa assembly.

The hospital, however, issued a statement saying that the rumours were misleading and malicious. ''It has been brought to our notice, various malicious and misleading reports/rumours are floating around in the electronic/print media with regard to the health of Hon Chief Minister of Goa. We categorically deny all such rumours,'' the hospital said in a statement. The hospital, however, said that the BJP leader is currently being treated and was responding well to the treatment.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was in Mumbai to inaugurate the Global Investors Summit, visited the hospital to enquire about Parrikar's health. Parrikar, a three-time Goa CM, served as India’s defence minister. Immensely popular, he steered the BJP to a victory in Goa in the last year’s assembly elections.
