Several unknown employees of Infosys Technologies, a fake CA and officials from the I-T department from Bengaluru involved in a ‘revised tax returns’ fraud are being investigated by the CBI.

According to the FIR, the scam was unearthed by the I-T department in late January. The said people involved in the scam benefiting employees of bellwether IT companies and filed 1,010 revised tax returns using forged documents in the names of 250 taxpayers of various private firms.

These refunds were claimed illegally during three assessment years.

The CBI stated that the fake chartered accountant Nagesh Shastri was filing the returns permitting to circumvent the system and get the required approvals by the I-T officials and the Infosys staff.

Shastri along with unknown officials of the CPC, I-T department, and unknown private persons submitted false information and filed the fraudulent returns thus claiming Rs 5 crore refunds.

The FIR reads, “Source information revealed that the amount has been later shared among Shastri and unknown officials of the I-T department, Infosys Technologies and others.”
