A complaint has been filed against the Art of Living founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar on Friday for allegedly hurting the religious sentiments of the Muslim community over his statements on the Ayodhya issue.

Secretary of the city-based Darsgah Jihad-O-Shahadat (DJS), Salahuddin Affan filed the complaint in Hyderabad claiming that the spiritual guru gave ‘provocative’ statements against the Muslim community over the Ayodhya row hurting religious feelings and beliefs of its members.

The complainant alleged that Sri Sri Ravi Shankar had stated that "if the court rules against a temple (in Ayodhya), there will be bloodshed in the country and India will have a Syria- like situation”.

Salahuddin Affan further said that the statement was given with an intention to disturb communal harmony in the country.

However, clarifying his stand, the spiritual guru said that he had cited Syria just as an example and his statement should not be taken as a threat.

Ravi Shankar has been charged under IPC section 295A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs).
