A Class X dropout defrauded Amazon of Rs 1.3 crore in a span of five months. The accused, Darshan alias Dhruva allegedly rigged the card payments made through a tab given by the e-commerce giant.

He along with his friends got to order expensive products and ‘delivered’ them without any transfer of money.

Police arrested four youth along with Darshan - Punith, Sachin Shetty and Anil Shetty and seized products worth Rs 25 lakh from them - 21 smartphones, a laptop, an iPod, an Apple watch and four bikes.

The fraud which took place between September 2017 and February 2018 where Amazon received 4,604 orders from Chikkamagaluru city which were delivered by Darshan.

Amazon has an agreement with Ekdanta courier company for delivery of its products in Hyderabad and collection of payment.

Darshan, who works with Ekdanta had tampered with the card payment system by creating a false payment alert at the time of swiping the card.

During their quarterly audit conducted in February, Amazon came to know about the cheating and lodged a complaint.
