New Delhi/Amaravati: Is the Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan so helpless that she had to warn the members that she may have to adjourn the House sine die if they did not behave themselves, before closing the session for the day dumping the no-confidence motion in the dustbin?

The contention of the Speaker that she was not able to count the number of MPs who are coming in support for the motion since there was din in the House is now being questioned by MPs and former MPs.

It is over 15 days since the notices for no-confidence motion were being given and it has become a daily routine that as soon as the Speaker takes up the notices for no-confidence motion, the AIDMK members would troop into the well and raise their demand, hopes of discussion on no-trust motion of the TDP continued to remain at the lowest ebb.

Till Monday, TRS members too used to storm into the well creating a ruckus but they had decided to stage protests by standing at their respective seats after they came under flak that they were helping the BJP avoid taking up the no confidence motion with their protests in the well.

Former Union minister Killi Krupa Rani said proceedings in Parliament are turning out to be a farce. “This is an act played out by the BJP in the House. It is encouraging its allies like AIIDMK to create trouble so that the Speaker would not be able to take up the motion.” The contention that if there is din the House no head count could be taken is also being questioned.
