Hyderabad: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Tuesday ruled out conducting re-examination of Class X Mathematics paper. However, the board would conduct the re-examination of Class XII Economics paper on April 25.

In a press communiqué, the CBSE's Controller of Examinations (CoE) said earlier it was notified to re-conduct the Class X Maths examination, if considered necessary. However, internal inquiries and inputs from the ongoing police investigations indicate that the alleged leak may be confined to a few alleged beneficiaries.

Stating that there wouldn’t be any re-exam, the Board said the Class X Maths examination is essentially a gateway for Class XI.

And, it remains largely an internal segment of school education system. It was against this backdrop to address the primary concern of a large section of the students and their interests it was decided not to hold the re-examination for Class X Mathematics paper anywhere in the country, it said.

However, action would be taken against those took undue advantage from the alleged leakage wherever it is conclusively established, the press release said. With regard to Class XII Economics paper, the Board said that it is a gateway to higher education and various professional competitive exams which have limited seats.

Given the present scenario, the admitting institutions of higher education are likely to have reservations against the current batch of students regarding their results in the economics paper, not only in India but also in foreign institutions.

And, giving undue advantage to a handful of beneficiaries of the alleged leak would not be in the larger academic interest of the students, and neither does it uphold principles of education or the sanctity of the Board exams. Considering these aspects, it was decided that earlier decision of the Board to re-conduct the examination of Class XII Economics paper on April 25, 2018 for all candidates, except for CBSE students of schools located outside India, remained unchanged, the CoE clarified.
