As a precautionary measure, the Home Ministry has taken down its website after it was found that the defence ministry website showed error on its page. The National Informatics Centre (NIC), which hosts the MHA site, is upgrading the security system of the website. The hacking came soon after Indian Air Force announced that it would launch the biggest ever war games focusing on the twin threats of China and Pakistan.

The MHA website showed: "The requested service is temporarily unavailable. Sorry for Inconvenience. It would be available soon." The precaution was taken after the defence ministry website showed Chinese characters. Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in a tweet said that "appropriate action" has been initiated in the matter.

“Action is initiated after the hacking of MoD website (http://mod.nic.in ). The website shall be restored shortly. Needless to say, every possible step required to prevent any such eventuality in the future will be taken,” she tweeted.
